- Slay unjustly demoted the City’s first Black Fire Chief, Sherman George.
- Slay removed the 20th ward which was the strongest democratic ward in the city. Slay conspired to redistrict the aldermanic wards to force out former Alderwoman Sharon Tyus, who is Black, actions which eventually effected the loss of three Black aldermanic wards.
- Slay refused to sign the Police Civilian Review Board Bill. In fact Slay vetoed the bill. After vetoing the Police Civilian Review Board Bill, Slay silent and did not display any public dismay over findings relating to the Police Department and being labeled as the “Most Dangerous City in America”.
- Slay is not vocal to facts that the Police Department was not forthcoming in turning in required data and/or reports of crime.
- Slay interfered in the St. Louis Public School District and subsequently called for and supported State intervention.
- Slay supported selling public parks to private entities without public review.
- Slay supported the failed Home Rule giving the mayor authority over all city and county offices and departments currently held by persons whom St. Louis citizens voted for.
- Slay supports TIFs (giving away millions of dollars and tax incentives to private corporations) for projects such as Ballpark Village, Saint Louis University Arena, and Grand Center, thus hurting public funding of schools, police, neighborhoods, etc.
